"Mental illness" patient doesn't talk about his "missing episode": family

Muhammad Asir Ismail (pictured), who was found on Friday sitting on a chair at the international terminal of Velana International Airport, after going "missing" for 13 days, haven't talked about his whereabouts or what happened to him during the missing period, over the last 3 days since he has been located, according to local newspaper "Mihaaru".

The newspaper quoted a family member as saying that the 31-year-old has been undertaking treatment for a "mental illness" which is "not so critical" and that he was in "sound health" when found according to police.

He was located on Friday after going missing for about a fortnight since going for work.

The family member was quoted as saying that Asir replies to all queries except on any matter relating to his disappearance.

Asir's family was quoted as saying that he was referred to a doctor who advised the family not to ask him questions regarding the period he went missing, and to let him talk about his "disappearance" on his own terms.

His family also said that he does not have any record of drug abuse and that he lives a "good life".

However, his family was quoted as saying that he has undergone a "major change" since he went missing.

"His behavior is now very different from the way he behaved before he went missing. He now doesn't initiate conversation and talks only if he is talked to. He just stays at home," a family member was quoted as saying.

Asir's family does not want to send him to work yet, and police has not commented on his disappearance except to say that he was located.

Before Asir went missing, another person was also reported missing from Mathiveri island in Alif Alif Atoll; his whereabouts are still unknown.
