Teaching is a noble profession

Happy Teachers' Day

Some people think teaching is tiring work. But it is not. Teaching is actually a very satisfying work. That's why teachers don't mind occupying very long hours teaching and then going home and making preparations to teach the next day, and so on.

Years ago, when I was in Science Education Center (now Center for Higher Secondary Education, or CHSE), I used to be a temporary teacher tutoring Aminiya School O'Level students in the subject Fisheries Science, and also teaching the subject History to O'Level students of Galolhu Madrasa. I can say that it was one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences of my life.

Not to mention: teachers are like our second parents. They love their students unconditionally.

Maybe that's why teachers work so hard to give a proper education to their students.

I think it has something to do with urban vs. rural communities. Rural communities have smaller populations who know each other and therefore is easier to spread Conservative values. Urban centers contain large populations of strangers and therefore it's not easy to spread conservative values. Nobody protests the rise of the new Maldivian musicians, artists, and football players who are becoming successful sensations on both mainstream media and social media. Unless the government imposes Wahhabi ideals by force or for some reason like Afghanistan and Iran the majority of the Maldivian population embrace Wahhabism, I don't think there is any reason to fear these Islamic NGOs trying to forcibly impose Salafi lifestyles on Maldivians.

It is a sad situation if we cannot let the beauty and marvels we see around us transform us into remembering or recognising the greatness of their Creator who produced such natural beauty and allow such thoughts to increase our piety and make us refrain from doing what is hated in Islam. If we don't ignore the religious aspect of using profanity, having a language rich in auguraana and admiring who uses it a lot is nothing to be proud about.
