Two Maldivian youths injured in fight at Sosun Villa annual futsal tournament in Sri Lanka

A physical altercation erupted during the annual futsal championship organized by the Maldivian Cultural Centre, Sosun Villa, which operates under the administration of the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka.

Videos capturing the fight during the semi-final match, which took place in Sri Lanka on Saturday evening, have been circulating on social media platforms.

The tournament has been subsequently canceled due to the incident, and the Cultural Centre could not be reached for comment.

A reliable source familiar with the situation revealed that the initial altercation was triggered by a foul against the opposing team. This escalated into a major brawl involving players, team officials, and spectators.

As a result, two young individuals sustained various injuries.

According to a Maldivian native Dhivehi language report by Maldivian media outlet Mihaaru, such brawls are not uncommon in the tournament, often arising from personal issues between the participating teams. This year's fighting occurred despite efforts to prevent such incidents in recent years.

The annual futsal tournament organized by Sosun Villa enjoys significant popularity among participants and spectators.
