Arrested fugitive from Dhaandhoo police station recaptured

A man who had escaped from police custody at the Dhaandhoo Island police station in Gaaf Alif Atoll has been recaptured on Monday.

The police apprehended him from a boat docked at the island's harbor, as reported by local media outlet Mihaaru in a Maldivian native Dhivehi language report.

The man was initially arrested on Sunday night in connection with a drug-related case but managed to flee on Sunday morning.

Mihaaru also stated that the man was found in possession of drugs at the time of his capture.

It is worth noting that on the 6th of this month, another individual had escaped from the police station on Rasdhoo Island in Alif Alif Atoll. Eventually, that individual was located in the lagoon of a nearby island.

Nobody protests the rise of the new Maldivian musicians, artists, and football players who are becoming successful sensations on both mainstream media and social media. Unless the government imposes Wahhabi ideals by force or for some reason like Afghanistan and Iran the majority of the Maldivian population embrace Wahhabism, I don't think there is any reason to fear these Islamic NGOs trying to forcibly impose Salafi lifestyles on Maldivians.
