Man arrested for growing marijuana, dealing drugs with large sum of cash

A man was arrested on Sunday for cultivating marijuana in a greenhouse in Male’ City and engaging in drug dealing, involving a substantial amount of money.

Acting on intelligence information, the police raided a premises and confiscated drugs, apparatus used for weighing drugs, and MVR 76,100 (USD 4,935) in cash.

In a Maldivian native Dhivehi language report by local media outlet Mihaaru, the suspect, a 30-year-old man, named Mohamed Shamoon identified as belonging to Male’ City’s register, was apprehended at the greenhouse where two suspected marijuana plants were discovered. Furthermore, the police found his fingerprints on several drug packets, according to Mihaaru.

Following the presentation of evidence by the police, Shamoon was remanded in custody for a period of 30 days. He is facing charges related to drug abuse, possession, and trafficking.

In a separate incident this week, another individual was arrested by the police for cultivating marijuana. The man was found growing a marijuana plant on the balcony of his apartment, according to the authorities.
