This is not my personal claim; this is a fact told to me last night by a Maldivian friend who basically grew up with him.
Police has now launched an "extensive" manhunt for the alcoholic 32-year-old Ibrahim "Gabbare" Abdulla, who is a "prominent" member of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), according to Maldives' English language news website "The Maldives Journal".
He fled after attempting to attack with a hammer another MDP compatriot, Member of Parliament (MP) Hassan Zareer, while the latter was at a cafe last month.
The news website reported about Gabbare's involvement in armed assaults against rival gang members, and his confession, at the age of 16, to murdering Ali Ishan. Though he was indicted in 2007, the court freed him in 2010 citing lack of evidence. Read full story from The Maldives Journal
