My father becomes winner of MVR 100,000 Red Wave Ramadan promotion top prize

During the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, the Red Wave chain of stores conducted a promotion where the top award was a cash prize of MVR 100,000 (USD 6,485), the lucky draw of which has been won by my beloved father Ahmed Rasheed Mohamed, fondly addressed as "Parker Ahmed".

Maldives' newspaper "Mi Noos" has done a report about him, including a 2-minute interview for YouTube. You can read the report and view the video at this link: https://www.minoos.mv/7011

The newspaper said that more than 300,000 coupons were filled by customers, making it the biggest sales promotion in Maldives last Ramadan.

My dad did business amounting to MVR 4,000 (USD 259).

The newspaper said that according to its findings, Red Wave comes at number one from among the "top ten" groceries in Maldives: https://www.minoos.mv/6156

"Mi Noos" reported that my dad always shops at Red Wave's chain of 16 shops because Red Wave offers the cheapest prices.

My dad is quoted as saying that the winning coupon, from among 8 coupons, came into his possession from shopping during various days of Ramadan.

He said that the prices at Red Wave is generally cheaper than other shopping outlets, which made him usually shop at Red Wave branches.

The newspaper said that Red Wave is his "favorite" shopping outlet and quoted him as saying that he did not shop at Red Wave during Ramadan harboring any hope or intention of winning the promotion.

"Mi Noos" stated that my dad had not won such a prize before, except for an oven which is still in use at our home, and that therefore, he gave away some coupons to other people, because he felt he won't win any prizes this time too.

"Sometimes I give the coupons to the staff at Red Wave shops but they tell me they are not allowed to accept them. Then I tell them to give the coupons to their friends," my dad is quoted as saying.

When a staff of Red Wave called him on his number which was written on the lucky coupon,  he found it hard to believe he had won the top prize, the newspaper went on to say.

He said that at first he thought it was a scam call and sought to make sure from Red Wave that it was a genuine call and accepted the prize after establishing and verifying the facts.

My dad was interviewed at "Mi Noos" office where he was asked how he would spend the money.

He was cited as saying that this cash prize actually belongs to my mother Hafeeza Ibrahim (pictured in the above photo with my dad) as everything he purchased was according to her needs for our family and household. He concluded the interview by saying that this cash prize, therefore, belongs to my mother, and that if she shares any amount with him, he will accept it.
