IGMH experiences two power outages affecting a large portion of the hospital

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) encountered two power outages on Saturday night, as reported by local media outlet Mihaaru in a Maldivian native Dhivehi language report.

According to a source at the hospital, gifted to Maldives by the Indian government and located in the capital Male' City, the first blackout occurred at 8:35 pm. The emergency lights were promptly activated. However, shortly thereafter, another power outage affected most parts of the hospital.

Once power was restored, a subsequent blackout occurred in a significant area of IGMH, including the OPD waiting area. Fortunately, the power was reinstated approximately five minutes later.

IGMH has not issued a statement regarding the incidents, leaving it uncertain whether any further complications arose during patient care.

Hospitals typically have backup systems to mitigate power outages, but it remains unclear if IGMH's backup generators functioned as intended.

The State Electric Company (STELCO) attributed the power outage to a technical problem in the area. The company has since resolved the issue.
