"The leading cause of environmental destruction is animal agriculture" is a bold claim backed by facts and figures in the one-and-half hour 2014 documentary "Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret".
Distributed by Netflix and backed by "Titanic" star Leonardo DiCaprio, who is also an environmentalist, this is a must-see production that states that rather than fossil fuels, it is animal agriculture, i.e. livestock farming, which is one of the main factors leading to climate change.
"Cowspiracy" makers backed the controversial "Seaspiracy" documentary, both of which allege that slave labor is involved in both the fisheries industry and animal agriculture.
Another similarity between both the documentaries involve the claim that there is no sustainable fisheries in the world, which one of my Maldivian friends says is an erroneous claim; he pointed out that Maldives is a "champion of sustainable fisheries".
Both documentaries strongly advocate people to adapt to a vegetarian diet in order to save the Earth's environment and ecosystems.
Both documentaries also expose the hypocrisy of non-profit environmental organizations, with "Cowspiracy" uncovering hypocrisy of such famed institutions as Greenpeace.
But the most disturbing factor exposed by "Cowspiracy" is that entrepreneurs who have a crucial interest in the continuation of the animal agriculture industry do not hesitate to commit murdering activists who fight against the animal agriculture industry. Such is the shocking extent the industry owners go to protect their businesses.
"Over 1,100 activists have been killed in the last 20 years in Brazil", according to the documentary.
Need I say anything more?
