The English language news website "The Maldives Journal" has revealed that there is a whopping 77 political appointees at the Youth Ministry.
In a report dated 26 April 2023, the newspaper stated that the ministry had "redacted" the names of the appointees, claiming that it was personal information that cannot be revealed. READ MORE
According to the news website's parent newspaper "Dhiyares", there are now close to 2,000 political appointees which is unprecedented in Maldives' history.
Dhiyares reports that it has received information from certain institutions which revealed that the government was spending millions of Rufiya as salaries for all these political appointees.
