According to a Maldivian native Dhivehi language report in the local media outlet Mihaaru on Monday, Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed stated that the policeman was assaulted by a well-known gang.
The injured officer received treatment at Hulhumale Hospital.
The Hulhumale Magistrate Court ordered the remand of a 21-year-old suspect for 15 days. A 32-year-old suspect was remanded for five days, while two other suspects aged 42 and 44 were remanded for seven days.
The injured officer holds the rank of sergeant and serves at the Galolhu Police Station in Male' City, the capital.
Hameed commended the brave efforts of the officer in defending against the attack.
Hameed also praised the swift action of other police officers from Hulhumale who arrested the four attackers.
