BOOK REVIEW: "The Elfstones of Shannara" by Terry Brooks

The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my number three book in my all time favorite list. Brooks' prose is nice but a recent re-reading made me irritated because he was referring to Allanon's cowl just too much as if he ran out of interesting things to say about Allanon's character.

However, I still remember being shocked at the twisted conclusion to the plot. It was nicely described, too.

Didn't bother watching the TV series after watching one episode and my loved ones confirmed it was not worth it.

They can't live without those. I think it has something to do with urban vs. rural communities. Rural communities have smaller populations who know each other and therefore is easier to spread Conservative values. Nobody protests the rise of the new Maldivian musicians, artists, and football players who are becoming successful sensations on both mainstream media and social media. Unless the government imposes Wahhabi ideals by force or for some reason like Afghanistan and Iran the majority of the Maldivian population embrace Wahhabism, I don't think there is any reason to fear these Islamic NGOs trying to forcibly impose Salafi lifestyles on Maldivians.

It is a sad situation if we cannot let the beauty and marvels we see around us transform us into remembering or recognising the greatness of their Creator who produced such natural beauty and allow such thoughts to increase our piety and make us refrain from doing what is hated in Islam.
