This is one of those times when I don't want to discuss the contents of a book in order not to spoil the plot for those who haven't read it yet and might want to read it, and this includes me not even writing a synopsis or summary of the book.
With regard to this novel by Brazilian Portuguese language author Coelho, I have to say that it's one of my all-time favorite fiction. Though his prose isn't as poetic as his seminal New Age novel "The Alchemist", which took the world by storm, resulting in famous celebrities such as Julia Roberts gushing about it, there are many reasons why "Adultery" too is memorable, mostly for the fact that Coelho lets us know how to live with the consequences of having committed adultery, especially if you betrayed a faithful partner.
He explains and emphasizes on the ultimate factors that can lead to forgiving spouses who have indulged in infidelity, which is a sense of loyalty but above all RESPECT existing within the sacred boundaries of marriage.
Ooops, sorry, *wink*, no further "spoilers"; just read it yourself. You just might get enlightened from this story which takes a realistic look at the complexity of adultery at a time the sanctity of marriage is falling apart fast in the West including so many Americans even going online to get engaged in extra marital sex through dating apps even if they have a clear conscience that ultimately they are not only cheating their spouses but also themselves.
