SHORT STORY: Thirsting?

By M.U. Samuel

Once upon a time in a Kingdom far far away, which faced acute water shortages, the King made a public announcement that he drinks potable water produced by a joint venture company (Company A) in which the Kingdom held majority shares and a foreign party held the minority shares.

For unclear reasons, it happened that the Subjects lacked faith in Company A's water even at the onset and instead chose to drink mineral water imported in plastic bottles which made the Kingdom more environmentally vulnerable because already the Kingdom faced an acute problem from threats by single use plastic and microplastic which was threatening its ecosystems.

When the King publicly claimed that he drank only tap water from Company A, his Subjects took to social media and joked that the King drank the water only after filtering it a lot.

Now it happened that Company A entered into another joint venture with another private company of that Kingdom, and started producing bottled mineral water. This clearly amounted to conflict of interest, not to mention that now Company A was literally competing against itself!
