I have quoted passages from this book at length, under the title "quotable quote" in various blogposts on this blog. So I will keep this review really short. Maybe might not even qualify for a "review". Perhaps just a short "recommendation" for bookworms who are interested in history, culture, and wanderlust.
In a nutshell, Trinidad born Indian ethnic Naipaul, who won the Nobel literature prize, raises important questions.
How have four non-Arab countries, namely Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia, grappled in assimilating the relative new culture of Islam in replacing their thousands of years old pagan culture?
Most importantly, is Islamic fundamentalism appealing to the youth of these four countries?
In short, have these countries been successful in accommodating and acclimatizing Islam and to what extent has this influenced the democratic governance of these four Muslim majority countries?
