Nazimbe's 60 plus years of "watercolour journals" of Maldives

I was transported into a dreamy state of visions of Maldives which so far I have been lucky enough to witness only through old photographs of Maldives - a time I had missed because I was born in 1978, when Maldives was been already opened to the world through tourism and our old way of life I had unfortunately missed because of my late coming to the world.

But artist Ahmed "Nazimbe" Nazim was born in 1961 and remember and express all those transformational period's lost memories in art form through the medium of watercolour, now staging his solo art exhibition, titled "Watercolour Journals of Nazimbe", at the National Art Gallery in Maldives' capital island Male'.

He captures visions of Maldives' islands then and now with his expert brush strokes. And it's not just the visions of the traditional way of life, places and events Nazimbe has captured but even the most recent events too such as modern development and progress that are taking place even as he continues to paint.

As usual when I blog about art and craft exhibitions, I am posting here only a few snapshots of his artworks that generated a personal interest in me; the rest of his works maybe more resonating with other people because beauty is subjective.

Nazimbe's art exhibition runs until 25 January 2024 and I have to say his exhibits are not something to be missed. In fact, booklets of his artworks in color are available at the rate of MVR 100 (USD 6) from the gallery's reception counter which would make a good memorial collection for any art lover. Additionally you can even purchase A4 size color prints at the rate of MVR 800 (USD 51).

In addition to these collector's items, I think I will make another visit and I recommend to not just art lovers but anyone interested in Maldives' history and culture and traditions to allocate some time to check out this art exhibition of arresting watercolour imagery by Nazimbe.
