God, increase in me that wisdom which discovers my truest interest; strengthen my resolution to perform that which wisdom dictates. When I was a child, the old powerhouse was on the southern side of Alikilegefaanu Magu you can enter after crossing Majeedhee Magu. Everytime I was in the area, I would find the noise unbearable. I wonder how you fared all those years while growing up in such an ear-splitting neighborhood.
I was used to it but glad when STELCO shifted to an area next to Dharubaaruge. I have friends who can't sleep without music or song playing in the background. Some of them fall asleep even wearing earbuds. Some need the constant hum of the air-conditioner or ceiling fan in order to fall asleep. They tell me they find it impossible to fall asleep if there is complete silence. I guess human nature differs for each individual. 😄
Seems like there's no end to the sound. Around where I live, one building adjacent to my house barely finished its noisy construction sounds and then an inner part of a neighbour's house on the opposite side just started its foundation work after demolishing the old structure there. The demolishing work was just as noisy. A narrow street and tall buildings around the area echo and magnify the sounds around, sometimes making it impossible to know from where the sound's coming from. Everyday it's so noisy.
I guess those of us who find noise unpleasant is unlucky. I think we can only hope and pray that it doesn't result in a mental breakdown that results from an inability to relax and sleep. 😔
