As we’ve learned with recent Hollywood strikes, streaming isn’t nearly as sustainable (or lucrative) as studios would have you believe. But when it comes to midbudget underdogs, it’s hard to argue with the convenience that platforms like Netflix and Max provide. While indie studios go toe-to-toe with assured blockbusters at the box office, streamers have become a lifeline for films that would otherwise be doomed to obscurity.
