MOVIE REVIEW: “Extraction 2” is an engaging adrenaline rush

There is a general belief that sequels cannot outperform their predecessors though “Top Gun: Maverick” proved everybody wrong.

Now comes “Extraction 2” produced and released by Netflix on its platform last Friday.

As I said before, I had to delay watching it because of my work engagements but managed to finally watch it yesterday.

And my verdict? Forget the critics. It’s sheer swashbuckling awesomeness!

Yes, there was “Mad Max: Fury Road” (a kind of sequel which I have now watched countless times) in addition to “John Wick: Chapter 4”.

As one critic pointed out, if you thought the action in those movies are “insane”, I am not disappointed in the 21-minute one-take action scene in “Extraction 2” shot with the use of 400 extras, to present a more enhanced version to the 12-minute one-take action scene in “Extraction” part 1. Of course, in an era of improved technology, we can expect more and more movies engaging in one-take action scenes and perhaps soon its novelty will disappear.

While there is the mention of Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake’s character’s family’s past in “Extraction” part 1, which revolved around the extraction of someone not related to Tyler, in “Extraction 2” the whole plot revolves around his family’s relatives by marriage.

Thus this sequel covers a wholesome project of involving Tyler’s family drama alongside the action adventure. And watching on a 60-inch screen television makes the 4K HDR visuals crisp and enjoyable to watch, not to mention the cleverly woven action sequences and sound effects.

All in all “Extraction 2” is a great sequel whether it breaks or not the record of its predecessor which currently holds the place of being Netflix’s most watched movie.
