Embarking on a book blasting Maldives’ injustices

(329 words)

(2 minutes read)

With ChatGPT launching a social revolution on par with the advent of the internet and the smartphone, I have decided to collaborate with one of my Maldivian friends, who is a PhD holder, on a trilogy book series.

Disguised as fantasy novels our aim is to metaphorically explore and expose the social hypocrisy and criminal injustices, not to mention government and state neglect, of the Maldives community which is still keeping "islanders" trapped in the confines of debilitating political, economic, and social traps, cages, prisons, and other sort of lockdowns. So our work would be like "Lord of the Rings" been Tolkien's criticism of the Second World War.

We are going to take it slow, because some of the greatest books ever written is the result of five or ten years of work. So my friend and my opinion is that even if we can write one page per day, without stressing our minds, we can get a decent novel of 365 pages, which will look great when we get ChatGPT to polish our texts.

We both believe that, rather than been a "dry" account of a non-fiction book about the challenges of growing up and interacting with a society which is repressed at all levels, the fantasy genre will provide us with a wider opportunity to reveal and discuss at length the gross suffering of Maldivians, the reasons been many, including ignored areas of basic needs and human rights, and the practice of class discrimination.

We both plan to use ChatGPT to polish our text so that it can be up to the professional standards as required by international publishers as we are going to write in English. We will decide later, depending on how people receive it, whether to publish it in Maldivian native language Dhivehi, and whether it will be worth to translate into other foreign languages as well. Wish us luck!
