While some Maldivians are unsympathetically jeering the loosing sides, which I detest, what catches my attention is that their players are all too human and cannot help control their feelings.
The emotions of footballers - such as Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo - were caught on live camera, candidly crying while millions of people across the world were watching in real time on TV.
What I learn from this is that though some people may think humans can control their moods, this is not always so.
Although in patriarchal societies men, from a tender age, are taught not to show their emotions, especially negative ones, emotions by nature control us, regardless of whether we have free will.
We can aspire to be mentally strong human beings but we are still at the mercy of our nature. Boys don't cry? Not really.
I condemn hypocrisy in all its forms
