Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeg's "Dhivehi Raajje Democracy Ah Kuri Dhathuru" (loosely translated as "Maldives' Journey to Democracy") is a comprehensive account of the country's volatile politics from 2003 to 2008.
Unlike Aishath Waheed's "Majubooruvi Badhalu", which contains illustrations, Shafeeg's book includes colour photographs of his and various other sources.
Shafeeg's endeavour would make an essential collector's item for historians as his book includes not only a narrative of events but also photographs from the time of inmate Evan Naseem's murder (in 2003) up to the swearing in of Mohamed "Anni" Nasheed to the presidency (in 2008).
Shafeeg is a reputed journalist and photographer who was involved in the local magazines "Adduvas", "Manas", and "Fiyes".
At the end of this book, he includes a personal account of his unpleasant experiences in detention during the era of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who was ousted by Anni in the first ever democratic elections in 2008.
