Where would we Maldivians be if not for foreign investment?

Soneva is going to open its 3rd resort in Maldives towards the end of this year, with future aspirations to open a fourth Soneva Maldives property and debut in Japan with a destination in Okinawa although these have not yet been confirmed.

There are Maldivians who feel that "foreigners" through their investments in Maldives are ripping off Maldives’ wealth that should instead go to Maldivians. Then there are Maldivians who feel that without tourism and other foreign investments in Maldives, we Maldivians will go into abject poverty and even starve.

I don't have any opinion with regard to this debate because I don't have enough information to pass a judgment and therefore I don't want to be a Maldivian who gets worked up with "issues" such as this. There are enough personal problems to worry about such as runaway inflation, a government hijacked by drug traffickers, gangsters, pimps, and an overall corrupt set of state institutions.

I just thought that I will provide a link to this article which I read yesterday because I would like to bring my readers' attention that Soneva is opening a third resort in Maldives with a fourth maybe in the pipeline which may be good news for those Maldivians who are optimistic that this will mean more job opportunities and other economic benefits such as resort supplies.

I can understand when Hillath says he doesn't have any opinion on this issue. I also suspect that he sure does but that it maybe not sensible to wade into it because there are many issues in Maldives where information is so convoluted and not transparent enough for us to take a fair stand and if we do it might result in passing unfair judgement on some who are party to the issue. Just my opinion
