Protest against convicted pedophile who the Government has allowed to give tution to children at his home

A group of people gathered outside the house of a man who was convicted of sexually abusing several young children some years ago, protesting against the fact that the man was tutoring children at his house.

Jennifer Latheef, leading activist of a group named “Noor” which tries to create awareness about relevant issues in the country, said that the objective of the protest was to show how serious the crime that he had committed was and to create awareness among parents about the dangers of sending their children to such a man. Full story on Haveeru Daily

Just goes on to show the state of affairs in this society where the Government allows convicted pedophiles the opportunity to prey on more children. Please consider very carefully the options when you choose on a candidate to vote in for next Parliament.

  1. Fuck yeah.

Sexual abuse not a big deal for some Maldivian parents, but the children deserves better.
I salute Jennifer Latheef for standing up for the children when their own parents fail to do so.

  2. While convicted pedophiles have a right to lead a normal life after serving their times, civilised countries do not allow them to work in jobs that will get them in close proximity with children.

The government should facilitate Naseem to find some of occupation that, while not directly or indirectly relating to children, will allow him to get an income and lead a normal life.

What is wrong here is that the Government has allowed him to engage in work where he has direct access to children. I believe this is what Jennifer and Noor is protesting about.

I dont believe Jennifer is against Naseem leading a normal life, as long as he is engaged in an occupation where he will not have access to children.

  3. Noor has a case but the venue they choose to hold the protest shows that they really do not understand the gravity of their actions. What a abused child has to go through after being labeled as a naseem sore student is as bad. This society looks down on them more than the pedophiles themselves.Mr. Naseem sore is a registered member of the ruling party , they should have not given him the membership. Now even the students who are given tuition will be picked on at their classrooms probably scaring them from speaking out even if they are abused. This society punishes victims more than they punish the actual guilty party. This protests should have take place in front of education ministry or even at the doorstep of majlis.

The current government owes it to the people to undo the wrongs of the previous government.they should start doing it now rather than waiting for the conclusion of the parliamentary elections.

  4. Good point you raised Aseel. If Naseem Sore is able to openly conduct a tuition class, obviously a government authority has to take responsibility for that. One danger about vigilant groups is that people may take the law into their own hands.

  5. they have already taken the law into their hands. There has been clashes with residents and the protestors, and haveeru has reported that one of the protestors has grabbed the hand of a child of naseem sore.

I agree with aseel, this is not the place to hold this protest. The problem here is not that naseem sore is giving tuition but that the authorities has ALLOWED this to happen! So they should protest outside education ministry.

At the same time I am also disgusted with the parents who are sending their children to this man. they really should know better!
